The first announcement of cabinet reshuffle day was an unexpected resignation.
James Brokenshire MP, Prime Minister May’s Northern Ireland Secretary has stepped down from his cabinet position, reportedly due to ill-health.
Mr Brokenshire has served in the Prime Minister’s cabinet since she took office in July 2016 and has presided over the difficult task of the collapse of the Northern Ireland executive.
Six ministers are expected to move positions today, with the vacant position of First Secretary of State being the highest post following the sacking of Damien Green before Christmas.
