U.S. president Donald Trump, yesterday, insulted ABC News reporter Cecilia Vega as he called upon her to ask a question at a White House press conference.
As Vega prepared to ask her question, the president remarked “She’s shocked that I picked her. She’s in a state of shock.”
Once ABC News’ senior White House correspondent had gotten to her feet and been passed a microphone she responded “I’m not, thank you, Mr President.”
“I know you’re not thinking, you never do”, the president said, clearly having misheard “thank you”, for “thinking”.
Visibly shocked, the Emmy winning journalist asked for the president to clarify his remarks: “Sorry?” she replied.
Trump then brushed over the incident, prompting Vega to ask about the president’s tweets in relation to the FBI investigation into his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
He then took issue with her line of questioning, asking how it related to trade. He said he’d return to the question after discussing trade and the new NAFTA agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Donald Trump has previously faced accusations of misogyny and has been seen to take issue with female journalists in particular.
